Turkey, rarely heard of when it comes to fashion, has been involved for a long time. Their reputation for textiles and production of Gap and Dolce & Gabbana cannot be overlooked, which is why they believe Istanbul can be the next fashion capital. Enter Hikmet Tanriverdi, the Chairman of ITKIB, which is the body that represents manufacturers and designers in Istanbul.
Tanriverdi has big dreams, especially after his Istanbul Fashion Days, the first event that introduced designers and brands to the international press and buyers. His enthusiasm has brought in the support of government. Why? Because regardless of anything else, 55% of Turkey's exports are to Europe, and 82% of those are in apparel.
Their deadline...2023...the goal...Istanbul will become a new fashion hub...our verdict...they have a good chance.
